Growing up in poverty as the son of a single mother in Texas, Cortez found comfort in music at an early age. He started singing in church, and eventually fell in love with the music of innovators like Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder. He would continue performing, determined to develop his craft, even through a bout of homelessness.

Today, Cortez brings a sound that mixes authentic R&B with pop hooks and unforgettable melodies. His voice, with both soulful subtleties and a powerful upper range, has been praised by some of the best-selling performers of all time, including stars like Chris Brown Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez. His positive message and charismatic style left Nicki Minaj almost speechless, asking “is it hot in here?”

“No one can put a definition on your life,” he says, and as a multi-talented artist, actor, and songwriter, Cortez continues to grow. His debut EP, RAW, is set to be released in 2025.
